Dental Implants

Dental Implants are an advanced and demonstrably consistent alternative to conventional dentures / crown and bridgework. An implant is made up of titanium alloy, resembles the root of a tooth in shape and size and is placed into the jawbone like the way tooth roots are usually present. The unique capability of implants to fuse with bone provides stability to the implant when placed in bone. This is followed by placing a crown / bridge or denture (as per need ) on to the implant to ultimately achieve the goal of replacing the missing tooth / teeth. In addition to acting as anchors for crown and bridge work, implants can also be used to support dentures in patients with minimal residual bone for retention of conventional dentures.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Veneers: Veneers are a thin shell of either porcelain or composite material, which are bonded on to the visible surfaces of the teeth, to modify the colour, shape, size of the teeth for aesthetic reasons or as a component of extensive smile designing or full mouth rehabilitation procedures to close gaps or to modify proportions mentioned above for overall positive outcome.

Smile Makeovers: A facet of aesthetic dentistry, it involves procedures like Teeth whitening, crown and bridge / veneers used in a planned and synchronized manner to give you the smile you have always wanted.

Teeth Whitening:The colour of our teeth can darken due to various reasons, the most common being age, or external factors such as food habits, dark beverages, smoking etc. Teeth whitening or bleaching procedures work to lighten the colour of the teeth to a lighter shade. They are either in office or take-home procedures available depending upon the degree of whitening needed to be achieved.

Tooth Jewellery :Are you looking for that extra dazzle when you smile? Well, then you are probably going to like tooth jewellery. Tooth jewellery comes in different shapes, sizes and colours and is bonded to the tooth surface using a simple procedure which takes less than 15 minutes on the dental chair. No drilling or removal of tooth structure is needed for this procedure and is absolutely painless with no damage to your teeth. Just another way to make your smile dazzle!!

Orthodontics (Braces)

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry which involves correction of the position and appearance of the teeth along with correction of functional aspects like bite correction, stabilization and uniformity. It is also used to intercept habits like thumb sucking and tongue thrusting in children. It makes use of either removable or fixed wires or braces as they are popularly known, in order to bring about the desired change. With advances in orthodontics, in addition to conventional treatment with wires, newer invisible braces have become the order of the day in orthodontic correction of teeth.

Restorative Dentistry

Fillings, inlays, onlays, crowns, dental bridges and more, fall under the gambit of restorative dentistry.

Fillings

Fillings are used to replace tooth structure lost due to decay, trauma or other reasons. While tooth coloured fillings, which are composite resin materials are the norm is modern dentistry, certain situations may warrant an alternate filling material like the conventional silver amalgam filling or an alternate treatment strategy like an inlay, onlay or crown for predictable treatment outcomes.

Inlays & Onlays

Inlays & Onlays are hybrid restorative techniques between fillings and crowns. They are used to replace damage cause by more extensive loss of tooth structure where a routine filling would not effectively be able to replace tooth structure. Inlays or Onlays (Decided based on degree of reconstruction needed) help reinforce existing tooth structure and ensure more predicatble outcomes in such cases.  They are fabricated in a dental laboratory and are made up of metal, composite or porcelain depending upon functional and aesthetic demands.

Crowns

Crowns or caps (as they are commonly known) as the name suggests envelope the natural tooth to restore the normal shape and size of the tooth and there are various circumstances in which a crown is indicated, the most common ones being, to protect and reinforce a root canal treated tooth, restore a fractured or extensively damaged tooth, to cover a severely discolored tooth or even to support and reinforce a tooth with an existing large filling. Crowns are fabricated in a dental laboratory from impression moulds recorded at the clinic. Crowns are either made entirely of porcelain or are made up porcelain layered over metal alloys or of metal alloys on their own.

Bridges

Bridges are crowns joined together to usually replace missing teeth. They derive support from placing crowns on teeth adjacent to the missing tooth or teeth and replace the missing ones.

Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment usually becomes necessary when the pulp tissue / nerve tissue of the pulp get infected due to progression of the decay from the overlying Enamel and Dentin though it may also be necessary for other reasons such as traumatic damage to the tooth. It involves removal of the infected tissue, followed by disinfection and shaping of the root canals followed by filling with an inert material to prolong the survival of the tooth in the mouth. A root canal treated tooth usually requires a restorative material to protect it post procedure.

Dentures

Dentures are used to replace either few or all teeth depending upon need, commonly known as either partial or complete dentures. They are removable and are usually made up of acrylic / cast metal framework / flexible resin based material. They are custom made for each patient, to ensure fit, function and aesthetics.

Oral Surgery

Oral surgical procedures include minor surgical procedures carried out under local anaesthesia, such as removal of non-restorable teeth, removal of teeth submerged under bone or soft tissue (impacted teeth), draining of abscesses due to infected teeth and other surgical procedures needed to support other treatment plans like dentures, implants etc. Depending upon the complexity and need, they are either carried out by a general dentist or a specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

Gum Surgery

Gum surgeries are usually needed in treatment of severe gum disease, which warrants surgical procedures to treat or reconstruct, lost supporting structures. They are however, also sometimes employed electively in aesthetic/ prosthetic / restorative procedures to ensure harmony of the oral structures and achieve a pleasing outcome. At Destination Dentistry, a specialist periodontist performs all gum surgeries.
